DESCRIPTION:NATURE DISCOVERY BACKPACKS COME TO THE NORTH ADAMS PUBLIC LIBRARY\nCheck out a hiking backpack like you do a book! \nNORTH ADAMS, Massachusetts – This month, the Berkshire Natural Resources Council (BNRC) and the North Adams Public Library (NAPL) will launch a joint initiative, the Nature Discovery Backpacks Program.\nThe program provides access to essential hiking supplies for a safe, fun, and educational outdoor experience. Community members with a library card will be able to check out backpacks equipped with field guides, trail suggestions, a basic first-aid kit, compass, binoculars, magnifying glass, bug spray, two ponchos, an insect house, wildlife tracking card, Leave No Traceeducational cards, and an observational journal. The packs, generously sponsored by BNRC donors, will be available at the North Adams Public Library for a one-week checkout (reservations required).\n“This program is meant to provide the tools for families and individuals to be prepared for their own adventure in the natural world and to have fun,” said Jenny Hansell, BNRC’s President.\nOn Saturday, October 19th BNRC and the NAPL will host a free transportation hike with a hiking 101 workshop. Participants can catch the bus at the North Adams Public Library at 1:00pm or meet the group at the Hoosac Range Trail (2441 Mohawk Trail, North Adams). The workshop and hike will take place from 1:30pm – 3:30pm and the bus drop-off at the NAPL by 4:00pm. Trail snacks and water will be provided. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
