Artists in eastern Dutchess County once again open their studios for the 17th annual ArtEast Open Studio Tour – a free, self-guided driving tour to the studios of 27 artists. The public is enthusiastically invited and welcomed on two weekends: October 14-15 and October 21-22, 11:00am-5:00pm each day. Not only will you get a chance to interact with artists in their creative settings, but you will be traveling interesting rural roads in the beautiful countryside of the Hudson Valley during peak foliage season.

A wealth of art mediums and styles are represented by the artists on the tour. You will find painters using alcohol inks, oils, watercolors, acrylics; mixed media artists, fiber artists, 3D artists, photographers and a jeweler. Many are returning artists to ArtEast but there are a couple of first timers:  Sharon Nakazato, brings years of intensive training in Asian brush calligraphy to a range of painting, drawing, collage, and mixed media. Japanese spirituality, humor, and unity with nature infuse her distinctive line, form, space, and color. Sharon will be showing her work in Patterson, NY on the tour.

Another new artist is Marilyn Mitchell. Marilyn works primarily in oil paint and India ink on Yupo paper which she sews in deference to her female ancestors that made quilts. Her work explores how the media, whether print or digital, portrays society and our current times. Her studio is located in Holmes, NY.

You can check out the list of all the participating artists and plan your weekend of art by going to the website or picking up a brochure at many local establishments. All of the artists on the tour have original work for sale. Prices run the gamut from specially priced works created exclusively for the tour such as cards and small works of art, to larger pieces priced from a few hundred dollars and up. Most artists are open to commissions, too.

The ArtEast Open Studio Tour is entirely organized and run by participating artists. The Tour gives visitors a relaxed, behind the scenes peek at where, how and why these local artists create their work and why they are passionate about the work they do.

Attending the ArtEast Open Studio tour is a fantastic way to support local artists and contribute to the growth of the Hudson Valley art scene. By purchasing artwork directly from the artists or commissioning a custom piece, you are not only investing in their careers but also helping to sustain a thriving artistic ecosystem. Your support can make a significant difference in an artist’s journey and encourage them to continue pursuing their passion.

You can keep up with the events of ArtEast by following its Facebook page and Instagram accounts. There’s always something going on and social media will keep you up to speed and make sure you don’t miss a thing. You can pick up a tour brochure at many local establishments OR to have a brochure mailed directly to your home, send a request to:  info@arteastdutchess.com
