Klocke, a name as carefully crafted for John’s venture as any other part of the organization, is a Dutch word for clock. The word brandy comes from the Middle Dutch word brantwijn (burnt wine!), which became brandewijn, which became, in English, brandywine, or simply brandy. It was the Dutch who brought brandy making to the Hudson Valley hundreds of years ago, so Klocke is rooted in the past as well as the present – and certainly the future. Making earth-to-glass brandy takes time. “Patience, passion, and heritage,” John says, are the hallmarks of his undertaking. 🥃✨

Over the last ten years, all walkable villages and hamlets with an active center have become more sought after, exceeding the general increase in median home prices. Single-family residences in Rhinebeck, NY, have risen 200% in the last ten years from a median price of $288,000 in 2014 to $577,500 in June of this year compared to a 180% increase in Dutchess County overall to a median of $424,000.

The Lowdown Drifters, a Texas-based band blending country, rock, and Americana, are releasing their third album, In Time, on October 25.

“The epitome of a rock band with a fiddle problem,” is how the Lowdown Drifters describe themselves on their website. The band consists of Big John Cannon on vocals (an appropriate name if I’ve ever heard one), Dylan Welsh on guitar, Raina Wallace on bass, Josh Willaert on drums, and Doug Rehfeldt on the fiddle.

Frances Grace came in from the fields and sat down to talk over her kitchen table at Sweet Flower Farm in Copake one weekday afternoon. Her four-year-old son, Percy, played nearby with a spider he had made out of an egg carton and purple pipe cleaners. Her husband offered us some cookies from Camphill. Frances and her husband, Thaddeus, purchased this farm just over a year ago and moved from Denver in June 2023. I wanted to hear about their new venture for a high-end florist and Chinese acupuncturist far from the Rocky Mountains. 🌼✨
