Coffee table book, Cold Spring, NY, puts the charming Hudson Valley town on display
Cold Spring, NY, a coffee table book providing an intimate glimpse into the picturesque Hudson Valley town, will be released on November 22.
The book, by Alissa and Will Malnati, features over 50 black-and-white photographs that offer a captivating look at the village of Cold Spring, located just 60 miles north of New York City. Alissa, a writer and fashion executive, and Will, a podcast and television producer, moved to Cold Spring in 2021 and were immediately enchanted by the village.
“Throughout our 25 collective years in New York City, we had dreamed of a place that would allow us to pull back from the intensity of the city, slow down, and be still in nature,” Alissa explained. “Cold Spring was just that – and at a time that we needed it the most.”
In the introduction to the book, Alissa and Will describe Cold Spring as their “medicine.” Before moving to the town, their idea of community was “in retrospect, incredibly limited.”
In Cold Spring, they learned that community means being “for others, the refreshing and daresay, medicinal water wherein this remarkable place was founded.”
“We both love photography and organically found ourselves snapping photos in and around Cold Spring, throughout the drastically unique seasons over the course of three years,” Will continued. “As we accumulated more and more images, we realized that there was no photo book dedicated to Cold Spring, and given how many people have such a profound adoration for the town, this was a chance to give back to the town that has given us so much.”
Spotlighting the beauty of Cold Spring
Cold Spring, NY, showcases not just the breathtaking landscapes of the Highland Hills, but also the distinctive architecture and vibrant people that make up the community. On the pages, you can find images of the mountains and Hudson River, 19th-century architecture and modern Main Street storefronts, lush farms, and some of the unforgettable faces who form the fabric of the community within the village.
When choosing what photos to include in the book, Alissa and Will relied on what images moved them the most. “From the people to the architecture, to the landscape and changing of the seasons, Cold Spring is so picturesque during any time of year that it’s impossible to take a bad photo,” Alissa gushed.
The Malnatis’ photography captures both natural and human wonders in Cold Spring, and perhaps most importantly, is a visual celebration of a community of which Alissa and Will are incredibly grateful to be a part.
“‘Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name…’ That’s what Cold Spring is to us,” Will said. “A collection of interesting people doing interesting things in an interesting place, all supporting the town and one another.”
Upcoming events to support the book
Alissa and Will are hosting a handful of events to promote the book. On Friday, November 22 from 6-8:30pm, they’re hosting an intimate launch of their book at the General Store at 66 Main Street in Cold Spring.
On Saturday, November 23 from 12-2pm, Alissa and Will are hosting a book signing at Fishkill Farms, located at 9 Fishkill Farm Rd in Hopewell Junction, NY, and a place that is featured prominently in the book.
And finally, on Friday, December 6 from 5-8pm, they’re hosting another launch at Upstate Down at 13 East Market Street in Rhinebeck. Martinis will be served and there will be a special DJ set by Upstate Down owner, Jon Berry.
“This book memorializes our time in Cold Spring,” Will shared. “A gift to the town and to those who made our time there so special.”
“We loved creating it and you can expect to see us print books in other upstate NY towns at some point in the near future!” Alissa added.
Cold Spring, NY releases on November 22 and will be available in select bookstores, online at coldspringbook.com, and via Amazon.
