FINCH launches first branded products with John Derian Collaboration and FINCH Bench
Warren Street’s beloved design shop, FINCH, has officially ushered in a new chapter with the launch of its first signature products.
The Hudson mainstay was opened in 2013 by Andrew Arrick and Michael Hofemann. After leaving fashion and finance careers behind in New York City, Andrew and Michael ventured upstate and landed in Hudson, where they endeavored to bring a new kind of retail experience to the community.
“We always envisioned a lifestyle experience for the home, body, and heart,” says Andrew. “When we were in the process of conceptualizing the brand, we did a word association exercise about what it meant to be upstate. Around the same time, we were renovating our home in the Hudson Valley. A finch built a nest above our front lantern, and we asked the painter to wait until the baby birds had hatched before finishing that side of the house. That nest became the spark, and the spirit, of FINCH.”
Known for its distinctive “modern vintage” aesthetic, FINCH is a modern lifestyle retail concept that blends heritage design with contemporary sensibilities. Inspired by Andrew and Michael’s home, the FINCH brand is built upon the idea that home should feel “deeply personal, layered, and alive.”
What began in 2013 as a small, curated shop has grown into a 10,000-square-foot design destination that is part gallery, part showroom, and part treasure hunt. Now, FINCH is entering its next chapter and evolving into a national lifestyle brand, building upon its roots in retail with a limited-edition decoupage collaboration with renowned artist John Derian and a growing signature product line.
“This marks a defining new chapter for FINCH,” says Andrew and Michael. “What began as a beloved upstate design haunt has grown into a modern lifestyle brand. Our ‘modern vintage’ aesthetic is now taking shape in original pieces made to last, each one carrying the spirit of what we’ve always loved” storytelling through design.”
Signature product line
Building on the spirit and success of FINCH’s Hudson flagship store, they’ve launched a new chapter focused on creating original, design-driven products that reflect the modern-vintage aesthetic that they’ve become known for. From furniture and lighting to home fragrance and wellness, FINCH’s evolving collection of products brings the heart of the shop into everyday living.
“We seek freely across design periods, to both select and create objects with authenticity,” says Andrew and Michael. “Together, they form a fresh vision of what home can be – inspired, layered, and entirely one’s own.”
Debuting on November 3 is FINCH’s first original furniture piece, The FINCH Bench. The design of the bench is inspired by the legendary Swedish designer, Axel Einar Hjorth, whose rustic-modern style defined early 20th-century Scandinavian design.
The FINCH Bench embraces Hjorth’s spirit of organic luxury and combines refined oak with rich textiles and natural leather weaves, all in shades inspired by Swedish summers – moss, stone, and forest.
“The FINCH Bench is about restraint and resonance – celebrating natural materials, heritage craft, and a new kind of modern heirloom,” explains Michael.
John Derian for FINCH
FINCH launched their exclusive collaboration with New York-based artist John Derian on October 27. The series features decoupage trays, paperweights, and collectibles, all of which are inspired by the Hudson River School painters of the 19th century, including Frederic Church and Thomas Cole, both of whom celebrated the natural beauty of the Hudson River Valley and surrounding areas through romantic depictions of wilderness and scenery.
“These landscapes were America’s first visual love letters to nature,” says Andrew. “With John, we wanted to bring that sense of wonder into the home in a way that feels lived-in and alive.”
The nine-piece collection is co-branded with John Derian Studio and will be available in-store at FINCH’s Hudson location, online, and at partner institutions, including The Olana Project and The Thomas Cole House – both of whom are collaborators on the launch. 10% of the proceeds will benefit these cultural institutions.
FINCH is located at 427 Warren Street, Hudson, NY and is open from 11am-5pm on Sundays through Thursdays and from 11am-6pm on Friday and Saturday. FINCH’s Manhattan location is located at 200 Lexington Avenue, 10th Floor, and is open from 11am-5pm on Mondays through Fridays.
