Sustainable, local skincare brands My Neighbor’s Tallow and Mask Skincare collaborate on new product

By Published On: October 2nd, 2024

Sarah Mirsini, founder of MASK Skincare, and Harri Magaldi, founder of My Neighbor’s Tallow, have collaborated on a new skincare product – a Sea Buckthorn & Geranium Facial Tallow Balm.

MASK Skincare – based in the Catskills – was founded in 2019 by Sarah Mirsini, a certified herbalist and holistic wellness educator. As a teenager, Sarah struggled with acne. She tried countless solutions, but it was only when she discovered plant medicine and a holistic path that she was able to not only clear up her skin, but also reclaim her health. She later founded MASK to help support the journey to self-acceptance through the act of self-care not only for herself, but for others, too.

Harri Magaldi founded My Neighbor’s Tallow, based out of Hudson, NY, when her daughter Wilhelmina developed eczema. She searched for a natural solution, free of harsh additives, for her daughter’s skin, but had a difficult time finding a product that suited her needs. It was then that she discovered tallow – a rendered form of beef fat. My Neighbor’s Tallow utilizes dry rendering, which is a traditional process that keeps the fatty acids intact and preserves tallow’s full skin-nourishing potential. Each jar of tallow is rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K, as well as omega fatty acids.

Sustainable, natural skincare

Sarah and Harri’s paths crossed at the Hudson Farmers Market this past spring. Harri was selling her products, and they instantly connected over their shared passion for natural skincare and sustainable living. Given their shared interests and their similar businesses, they decided it would be serendipitous for them to collaborate.

“Harri focused on formulating the first product in their collaboration,” they explained. “A Sea Buckthorn & Geranium Facial Tallow Balm – with Sarah’s expertise of which ingredients would work well together in the blend.”

Harri and Sarah sourced organic ingredients – such as wildflower raw honey from an apiary local to the Catskill Mountains – from local, sustainable, and responsible sources. Additionally, the tallow used in the balm is grass-fed, grass-finished, organic, non-GMO, and hormone-free, and sourced from local Hudson Valley farms that practice ethical and sustainable farming.

“At the core of My Neighbor’s Tallow is a commitment to a nose-to-tail approach, ensuring that every part of the animal is honored and utilized. This philosophy now extends into MASK Skincare through the partnership,” Harri said.

The Sea Buckthorn & Geranium Facial Tallow Balm is only the first product in this new collaboration, and the “first step in redefining clean beauty – one nourishing product at a time.” Keep your eye out for more products to follow soon.
