The Stissing Theatre Guild presents “Something Rotten” March 7-9

By Published On: March 4th, 2025

The Stissing Theatre Guild is presenting Something Rotten! at Stissing Mountain Jr/Sr High School on Friday, March 7, Saturday, March 8, and Sunday, March 9.

The Stissing Theatre Guild is a volunteer-led theater organization that is part of the Pine Plains Central School District and has been producing shows since 1989.

About the show

Something Rotten! is a musical comedy by John O’Farrell and Karey Kirkpatrick. Set in 1595, the story follows the Bottom brothers – Nick and Nigel – who struggle to find success in the theatre world as they compete with the popularity of their peer, William Shakespeare.

This year’s performance marks the Stissing Theatre Guild’s 36th musical production. Kevin Barnes serves as the director, Alec Sisco as musical director, Ashley Burton as choreographer, and Gerard Lisella as technical director.

“Welcome to the Renaissance! Something Rotten! is a hilarious musical comedy set in the 1590s. Two brothers set out to write a hit play to one up the famous star of the day, William Shakespeare. They end up writing the world’s first musical. Something Rotten! is a hilarious mashup of Shakespeare and 21st century Broadway, featuring large song and dance numbers, and a wacky cast of characters,” the Stissing Theatre Guild writes on their website.

“I’m very excited to bring this hilarious and clever story to the Stissing stage. The cast and crew have been phenomenal and they promise a fun show for everyone,” said Kevin Barnes.

This production marks the Stissing Theatre Guild’s first production with tap dancing in many years, and many members of the cast had never tapped prior to performing in this show.

This year, Something Rotten! has nine seniors in the cast, performing in the final musical of their high school career. “Many of them have done several shows and they will be sorely missed next year,” says Julie Zengen, a volunteer with the Stissing Theatre Guild.
