This year’s Chad Malarchuk Scholarship Tournament
This Thursday, August 29th, starting at 9am, the Hillsdale Fire Company and Copake Country Club will be hosting the Chad Malarchuk Scholarship Tournament 2024. The tournament’s chicken BBQ, offering half chicken meals with all the fixings, will be held the same day, with takeout starting at 3pm.
Each year since 2018, the Chad Malarchuk Scholarship has awarded $1,000 to a Taconic Hills Central School District senior who plans to further their education in the fields of cosmetology or forensic science. The scholarship has been granted to Shealynn Waite in 2018, Adrianna Doty in 2019, Hethar Scutt in 2020, Joel Preusser and Haley Flood in 2021, Chloe Northrup from 2022-2024, and Victoria Burger in 2023.
Chad Malarchuk was a member of the Hillsdale Fire Company for 15 years and owned Chad’s Hair Studio in Millerton, NY. Chad was married to Richard Briggs, another member of the fire company, for six years, and they were together for 18. Tragically, Chad passed away of an unexpected and massive heart attack at 46 years old. Now, Richard honors Chad’s memory through the organization of this tournament and by helping students follow passions that Chad himself pursued throughout his life.
Richard explains, “I put all my energy and heart into this tournament to keep his name alive.”
