Restaurant Review

I had meant to write about 52 Main’s fall menu last October – when I went there and fell in love with some of their new items. But life happens and I let it slip. But as each day of March passes us by, life gets more and more strange, and we learn to deal with a new normal.

That new normal is having an impact on us all, whereas it is intertwined with the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Some of the immediate effects of the virus have been felt by our local restaurants. And they’ve had to pivot, and change their business models as more regulations have been enforced on them – and on us.

52 Main has certainly pivoted with offering take-out, curbside pickup, as well as delivery. And lucky for you and me, some of their great fall menu items are available on their take-out menu! The braised chicken empanadas were one of my favorite new finds, but the tacos are also such a treat – especially the ones with the pickled onion. And Eleanor and her 52 crew of course have some of the staples on the menu like their famous mac and cheese, wings, and 52 Burger.

Restaurants such as this, where you go for the ambiance and the bar scene, are perhaps the most vulnerable restaurants during this tough time. It is up to us to help them make it out on the other end. So help your neighbors out by getting a delivery or picking up or buying a gift card to use when this pandemic is all over with. Or for those unable to contribute financially, share your favorite restaurant’s social media posts and help spread the word!
