About Thorunn Kristjansdottir

Thorunn Kristjansdottir is the principal, editor, publisher and designer of Main Street Magazine. She founded the magazine in January of 2013, because she found a niche: there wasn’t any magazine specifically for this area. Yes, there were numerous magazines that covered the area, but they also covered everything from Poughkeepsie to Vermont. Thorunn thought that there was a need for a magazine for just this area, featuring stories about the people, businesses, and curiosities that are to be found in this corner of the world. Having done this before (she was the co-creator, editor and publisher of another similar magazine), she went to work to create Main Street Magazine for Millerton and it’s surrounding area in late 2012. A magazine that is high-end in every aspect, from the content, writing and articles to the photographs and advertisements, from the layout to the printing. She strives for perfection at each step of the way.

Business- Starting or Expanding?

The fabric and backbone of America are its small businesses, and lucky for us, we have an abundance of them in our area. It’s the American dream after all. But when it comes to starting and or expanding a business, the devil is in the details. It is the minutia that can become cumbersome, and […]

How and Why Your Business Should Stand Out

When times get tough (or prosperous) for a business, the first thing to go (in most cases) seems to be marketing. Money gets tight, and the business pulls back all “unnecessary” spending, with any and all forms of advertising being the first on the list. The oxymoron in this scenario however is that this is […]

Be The Change You Want To See

April 22 marks the celebration of Earth Day – however, in all reality, we really should celebrate the Earth every day! Every single day we have the privilege of living here and being the beneficiaries of Mother Nature’s gifts. And with that in mind, it is not too much to ask that we do something […]

The Season Getting You Down?

As we wind down the month of January – the month that we here at Main Street have dedicated to health and wellness – I thought it fitting to also include one of my write-ups – but this one won’t be quite so focused on me or my health but tackles a different health concern.

I […]

Brownie Cookies That Are Almost Too Yum!

My daughter and I found ourselves at home on a cold Sunday and wanted something “yum!” So my daughter asked if we could make some cookies. When do you ever say no to fresh-baked cookies? Like, seriously!

We flipped through my new cookie book that I bought myself for Christmas, and even though there are some […]

Week 1 of 2021 – Here We Go!

So how’s the “new you” project of 2021 coming along? I say that in jest of course, because I’m referring to how so many of us feel that January 1 is like a clean slate and a fresh start, and we tell ourselves, “The diet starts Monday!” And there’s nothing wrong with that.

I’m […]

Brand New World

We have made it – we have gotten through 2020. This year was probably one of the most stressful and challenging for all of us, and perhaps especially for parents. No school, no daycare – then virtual school – and all of this while still working… from home in a lot of instances. Phewww, what […]

Website Design

Have you ever gone to a website and you simply can’t find what you’re looking for? Or as soon as you get to a website’s landing page you get super irritated because of the pop-ups that keep interrupting you? (Ugh, I hate those!) Or how about when you’re navigating through a website and you quickly […]
