Main Street Moxie’s Own Mary O’ Neill on “Intro to Podcasting” at the Scoville Library

By Published On: May 16th, 2024

Mary O’Neill, one of our moxie podcast experts, is hosting an “Intro to Podcasting” workshop at the Scoville Memorial Library in Salisbury, CT, on Sunday, May 19 from 2-4pm.

In the workshop, participants will learn about the basics of starting a podcast from Mary, the co-creator and co-host of Main Street Moxie podcast with Thorunn Kristjansdottir. Mary never in a million years imagined that she would be in her third year of podcasting, and she wants people to know that even if you consider yourself a “non-technological” person, you too can create a podcast, overcome your fear of perfection, and get your first episode out there.

Topics covered will include:

  • The different reasons to start a podcast
  • What a podcast is, who listens, and why they’re popular
  • How to design a podcast that works for your goals and anticipated audience
  • The basic equipment necessary
  • How to record and edit a podcast
  • How to create and select podcast art and music
  • The difference between a podcast host and a podcast directory
  • How to write show notes and their importance

In addition to the podcast, Mary is also a senior contributing writer for Main Street Magazine. She holds a Ph.D. in philosophy and has taught courses in philosophy, humanities, global marketing, career education, and first year courses at Western Connecticut State University and Northwestern Connecticut Community College.
