Fur those of you who might not know, our brother Otis (whom we sadly nevfurr had the purrivilege of meeting) crossed the rainbow bridge peacefully at home July 8, 2025. Mom and the rest of the family were understandably extremely heartbroken. With Otis’ pawpurrints furrevfurr embedded in their hearts, it was hard to imagine opening them again to more fur babies.
With summer’s end in sight, Mom felt it was the purrfect time to start looking to adopt. Mom and Dad agreed they didn’t want another mostly white cat. Dad felt this would “replace” Otis, which they never want to do. Mom’s only request was not a black cat. Rumor has it our kid sister, Ellie, requested a gray male cat with white markings. With that in mind, Mom took the World Wide Web and put in adoption applications practically everywhere.
Hi evfurryone, I’m Joey. August 16, 2025 is a day I will nevfurr furrget. I’d only evfurr been in foster care through the Danbury Animal Welfare Society (DAWS) until that morning. My foster Mom brought me to DAWS in Bethel, CT, and I thought to myself, “Have I done something wrong? Why did she bring me here?” There were dogs barking in another room, cats that I’d nevfurr seen before, and I remember feeling scared. That afternoon, unbeknownst to me, my furrever family walked in to bring me home. Mom recalls me hissing at her as she picked me up fur the first time, but the rest, as they say, is history. Now, please allow me to introduce my sister furrom another mister, Stella.
Hey furriends. My name is Stella Bella. My story is a little different than Joey’s. After already being in an adoption situation that went wrong, I was brought back to Animal Kind in Hudson, NY. I specifically remember a camera in my face followed by someone quickly drafting an email saying, “I know you didn’t want a black cat, but she has a lot of white on her, too.” Animal Kind didn’t hear back for a couple of days and I didn’t know what my future held. That is until they walked in…holding out a cell phone with a picture of me on it. They were looking fur me! Purring with joy, Mom, Dad, and Ellie brought me to my furrever home on August 24, 2025.
We feel Otis lead us to our family. Although we have some big paws to fill, are settling into our new home nicely and can’t wait to make many memories with Mom, Dad, and Ellie.
