
Your friends may all be downing mint juleps for the Kentucky Derby, but you can steer clear of the extra booze and calories and enjoy a delightful and frisky wine-based cocktail that delivers the same refreshing flavors. All you need is mint leaves, a little bit of sugar, and a nice dry sparkling wine. Go with something basic and predictable, like Korbel Brut. To make a couple of Derby Spritzes, put 4 to 6 mint leaves in a small ceramic bowl. Add about a tablespoon of sugar. Muddle the leaves with the sugar to enhance their flavor. Adjust the sugar if you want something a little sweeter. Divide the muddled mint leaves with the juices between two flutes. Top with very cold Korbel. Don’t forget to wear a fun hat. Cheers!
