The last leg of the Triple Crown is on Saturday, the Belmont Stakes. It’s being held in Saratoga again this year, though it’ll be moving back to Belmont in 2027. The weather is looking fine and the Capital Region is excited for the action at Saratoga Racetrack. While there isn’t a horse in contention for the Triple Crown this year, it’s always an exciting event. If you want to drink the official cocktail of the race, it’s the Belmont Jewel, a blend of bourbon, lemonade, and pomegranate juice. I always prefer wine, but pomegranate and lemonade are fun to add to a light-bodied red for an impromptu sangria of sorts. It takes a bit of planning. Into a pitcher, pour a bottle of Pinot Noir (the Pinot Project is a good one). Add 1 cup of pomegranate juice and 1 cup of lemonade. Add 1/2 fresh orange, cut into bite-sized pieces, and a splash of brandy. Put the pitcher in the fridge to marinate the fruit and flavors for at least 3 hours. Serve over ice in a tall glass with a straw. Place your bets and enjoy!
