Looking for a “scary good” wine for Halloween, which is on a Saturday this year? There are all kinds of wines with labels designed for the occasion, with names like Vampire or Dracula. They can be fun for a large party. If you’re looking for a wine that’s as serious as it is seasonal, check out the line of wines from Michael David called Freakshow. They’re all good, but for Halloween itself I like the Red Blend with the werewolf-looking guy on the label. This wine will make you howl with pleasure – it’s a full-bodied blend of Syrah and Petite Syrah with an ABV of 15.5%. As the producers describe it, “The untamed meets the refined in this bold, full-bodied red,” with “aromas of warm cherry pie, vanilla bean and black pepper….dark berry flavors giving way to a long finish accented by toasted oak and warm baking spice.” The perfect pairing with trick-or-treat favorites of peanut butter cups or crispy milk chocolate. And of course, a roaring fire and some ghost stories.
