Moods? Yeah, we’ve all got them.

There’s this pandemic that’s making everything weirder than weird, and there’s the spring weather – one day glorious and uplifting, the next damp and gray and gloomy.

And a full moon to boot.

A couple of recommendations for wines this week? How about some that are HIGH IN ALCOHOL!! For that we turn to our friends in sunny California where fruit ripens to a high level of brix (sugar) which, when yeast is added to it, converts to our good friend alcohol. The Napa Valley yields luscious wines that reek of sunshine and that wonderful Napa lifestyle. It’s no wonder they’re so popular. Here are a couple that will take you to those intoxicatingly summery heights from the comfort of your confinement.

1. Butter Chardonnay from JaM Cellars. Per the winemakers, “Butter Chardonnay is rich, bold and luscious…the grapes we select are juicy, ripe and bursting with flavor…Butter brims with stone fruit and baked-lemon notes and has a lovely, long, vanilla finish.” The alcohol by volume? 14.8%!

2. Prisoner Wine Co‘s Unshackled Red. Per the winemaker, “Grapes are sourced from Monterrey, San Benito and Paso Robles in the Central Coast and Sonoma, Redwood Valley and Lake County in the North Coast. The blend is extremely Prisoner-like with Zinfandel, Malbec, Petite Sirah, Syrah and Grenache aged 10 months in 30% New French and American oak barrels.[It has] aromas of raspberry, blueberry and crushed violets and flavors of spiced dried cherries and hints of white pepper. On the palate it’s rich and mouthfilling.” The alcohol by volume? 14.5%!

Hope these improve your mood no matter the circumstances.
