In 1955 Ella Merle and her daughter Dede Kline rose to an auspicious challenge of helping animals who had fallen through the cracks of society in Columbia County. Through their dedication and exhaustive efforts, one small building with five dog kennels has today become a multi-faceted animal welfare organization holding up to sixty dogs and one hundred cats.

Over the last six decades CGHS/SPCA has expanded its services in the community to include low-cost veterinary services (serving more than two thousand animals each year); a food bank (providing 25,000 pounds of free food annually to families in need); stray dog housing, assisting law enforcement with cruelty cases; community outreach; and humane education.

Amaya is a delightful 2-year-old mixed-breed girl who is ready to bring love and laughter to her forever home. She is friendly, affectionate, and has lived comfortably with cats, dogs, and children. Amaya loves being part of the action, whether that means playing in the yard, going for walks, or settling in for snuggles after a busy day. Her gentle, easygoing nature makes her a wonderful companion.

Amaya does have a sensitive stomach and is currently being treated for Helicobacter and chronic gastrointestinal inflammation similar to IBD. Her condition was carefully diagnosed by specialists, and she is doing well on a prescription diet and daily medications. With routine care and consistency, Amaya continues to thrive and is ready to be a beloved member of a caring home.
