You animal lovers out there will know the feeling of relief that comes when the veterinarian tells you the problem is nothing to worry about. The feeling that leads you to raise a toast in relief and gratitude.

That was me this week, and I turned to a special wine for the occasion – a 2007 Empire Reserve from Hudson-Chatham Winery. This is a red blend fashioned to represent New York State’s finest wine regions, with equal parts Merlot from Long Island, Cab Franc from the Finger Lakes, and Baco Noir from the Hudson Valley.

The wine was aged two years in French and American oak. The 2007 vintage had the art deco label on it, making it extra special. And extra special it was in the glass, too. Smooth and refined and balanced and just delicious.

It was THE wine for my situation.

I don’t know if there’s more of this at the winery in Ghent, but you should call them and find out.

It’s worth what you will pay for it. I hear the newly botttled 2017 is a doozy, too!!
