It’s turkey time again. The. Best. Holiday. Eating, drinking, relaxing, and just enjoying the day. Whether it’s with family, friends (or both), or even just you, it’s a holiday that is so simply celebrated with a list of all we have to be grateful for, and a nice meal with a nice wine. There’s so much chatter about what the “perfect” wine is for Thanksgiving, and it’s fun to consider all the options. I think about this a lot, but what I always come back to is this: Drink what you like! Whatever that may be! Consider what your guests may like, too. Do they like white? How about a Semi-Dry Riesling? Red? How about a friendly Pinot Noir? Don’t overcomplicate the decision. Have fun!
What will be on my table? I can’t help it, I always go for the Beaujolais Nouveau. It’s the first pressing of Gamay in Beaujolais, and you can count on it to be a nice balance of ripe red fruit and juicy acidity, all on the light and bright side. As for the weekend of leftovers? Time to poke through the wine cellar and see what it’s time for. How about a big, juicy Zinfandel as an indulgent quaffer for turkey sandwiches? Works for me! A good one is Michael David’s Earthquake. Or whatever is in your wine rack. Cheers and Happy Thanksgiving!
