Christmas is next week!!! Must buy wine!!

For this week’s selections I called a local purveyor in Sharon, CT – Rick’s Wine & Spirits on Gay Street.

There’s a new owner there now – David – who had these mouth-watering suggestions. For bubbly (because it’s always appropriate), he said he recommends the 2015 Gusbourne Brut Reserve.

Get this – it’s from England!

David says it’s made in the traditional Champagne method, but with more Pinot Noir than Chard, and also some Pinot Meunier. “It’s delicious,” David says, “everyone who tries it comes back for more.” It’s a very competitive price at under $50. For reds, David extolled the loveliness of a Joseph Drouhin Chorey Les Beaune, a southern Burgundian Pinot. He says it’s hard to find a delicious Burgundy for the price point – $25. If you’re hankering for a big, fruit-driven red with tight tannins, David suggests the 2015 Campogiovanni Brunello di Montalcino. “It’s 100% Sangiovese,” he says, “and the 2015 is one of the best vintages. Very approachable and very affordable at about $60.” I’ll take one of each.
