Is it summer? Is it fall? Is it time to get out the sweaters and put away the white pants and shorts? What a conundrum. Hey, there’s a wine for that. A really good one. Actually, two of them, both really good. If you’re feeling the this-way or that-way of this time of year, pour yourself a glass of Conundrum and relax into whatever direction your life is taking you. Conundrum wines are part of the Wagner Family of Wines, based out of Napa, California. Started by Charlie Wagner, best known for the amazing Cabernet Sauvignon called Caymus, the Conundrum wines are a nod to his liking to blend all sorts of wine at dinner to find just the right blend to pair with what he was eating. The white is a blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, and Viognier, crafted by winemaker Jon Bolta. There’s so much wonderfulness going on in this wine! Stone fruits, honeysuckle, but also tangy lemon and hints of oak and apple. The Conundrum red, crafted by Charlie Wagner, is a decadent blend of Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, and Cabernet Sauvignon. There’s everything in from big, ripe berries to hints of cocoa, plum, spice, and even smoke. The winery calls it “both serious and playful.” That’s a lot like Labor Day weekend. Enjoy and savor it.
