In a wine education class recently, I was able to try two amazing Cabernet Sauvignons from Paso Robles in California. Both are made by wineries that staked their claims to what was possible in Paso way before it became as popular as it is today. They are J Lohr and Daou. The wines I tried from them were the J Lohr Hilltop Cab, and the Daou Cab (Daou has a line of Cabs; this one is their most popular). Both of the wines were big, beautiful expressions of ripe fruit and sunshine. Super smooth, lots of dark fruit, some warm spice notes on the finish – wines you wanted to come back to again and again. Did I have a favorite? No. They were both really, really good. You may be wondering about vintages. Don’t worry. Whatever your store offers will be delicious. Cheers to Paso.
