Affordable Housing Fair on January 27

The Ancram Affordable Housing Committee is thrilled to announce the first gathering of experts and advocates who will answer questions and present options addressing financing, design, construction and community planning for people interested in affordable housing in and around southern Columbia County.

Are you looking for affordable housing options? Would you like to reduce your energy bills? Are you interested in a low maintenance program or a more sustainable landscape? Wondering how a small town can address a shrinking stock of workforce housing? These are just a few of the questions that can be answered by the presenters at the Affordable Housing Fair.

The crisis of affordable housing is not unique to our community, and many who need it do not know how to go about securing it. This event aims to alleviate the vast knowledge gaps and expenses by gathering the people who are in the know, under one roof – for a day.

Planned presenters include Roe Jan Housing Committee (Ancram/Copake/Hillsdale), Habitat For Humanity, Heat Smart Capital Region, Columbia Land Conservancy, Guaranteed Rate, Columbia County Housing Task Force, RUPCO, SONYMA, Solstice Power, Ancram CSCTF/CAC members, Gallatin CSCTF/CAC, Taghkanic CSCTF/CAC Members.

The free, open to the public event will be held Saturday January 27, 2024 at The Roe Jan Community Library, 9091 NY-22, Hillsdale, NY 12529 from noon until 4pm.

“The reason I became involved in this issue, which is now a national crisis, came from witnessing employees in my business who could not find decent housing. These are young, local, hardworking people who grew up here and want to stay and raise their families. I saw them struggle to save enough money for their first house and it was always unfairly out of reach. It was heartbreaking, so I got involved and educated myself on the issue and though it is complicated, I am committed to bringing real homes to all who need it in our area.” Bonnie Hundt, co-chair of the Ancram Affordable Housing Committee.
