CATSKILL WELCOMES CAT SHOP

Cat on the Corner,a unique new gift shop offeringthe most amazing collection of cat-themed products you’ll find for hundreds of miles, will have its grand opening at 11am on Saturday, February 15, 2020in—where else?—Catskill, NY.

Fittingly located in a town named for cats (“Cat Creek” in Dutch), this shop is a great pitstop for locals and visitors touring the colorful themed cat statues that line Main Street each year. The shop is indeed situated on a corner at 362 Main Street, across from the historic Community Theatre. This tiny 250 sq. ft. space houses a vast array of cat-themed merchandise from all over the world—jewelry, bags, books, stationery, t-shirts, home décor, kitchenware, cat toys and treats, and more. So yes,Cat on the Cornerindeed features the largest selection of cat-centric products that you’ll likely ever find in one place.

In the spirit of small business, Cat on the Corner largely stocks brands that are handmade and primarily woman-owned. You’ll find earrings from Blossom and Cat, a small shop in Melbourne, Australia; screen-printed tote bags and coasters from Boyoun Kim, a designer in NYC; catnip toys from The Spicy Purrito, handmade in Rotterdam, NY; and many other unique, handcrafted products that you won’t find in other stores. As you peruse the shelves, you’ll also notice Cat on the Corner’s owner and sole proprietor, Kira Goldfarb, often hard at work on her own handmade line of pet collars, leashes, and bandanas.

Kira, a lifelong Catskill resident, is a well-known cat sitter in the village with four cats of her own, and she has been creating and selling her unique made-to-order pet items for the past five years. “As the ultimate cat lover, my hope is that Cat on the Corner will inspire people from all over to check out Catskill and most of all, own the cat lady title and be proud of it,” Kira said.

So, follow @catonthecorner on Instagram and come by the shop to experience what can only be described as a cat lover’s heaven—a true destination for cat ladies (and cat guys!) of all ages. Treat yourself to something cat-centric and reminiscent of your time in the beautiful Catskills, find a unique gift for your favorite feline fanatic, or get your kitty some new goodies to purr about.

ABOUT KIRA

Kira sells her own handmade items primarily through Kira’s Pet Shop on Etsy, and also at several craft fairs in the area including the annual Chatham Summerfest and the Hudson Valley Garlic Festival in Saugerties. All of Kira’s pet accessories are handmade to order based on each customer’s pick of fabric pattern, sizing and hardware, using the highest quality materials. With a household now totaling four cats and two dogs, Kira had to manage sewing her products at the kitchen table with her six furry family members constantly under her feet and on her lap. She long dreamed of having her own physical shop that could double as a workspace. When a small storefront across the street became available, she couldn’t resist the opportunity to use her creative and entrepreneurial skills (and serious love of cats) to develop Cat on the Corner.
