Oblong Books & Music is excited to partner with the Bardavon to bring Pete Souza to the Hudson Valley on Sunday, November 3rd, 2019 for a dynamic large-screen presentation of his award-winning photographs and presentation of his #1 New York Times Bestseller SHADE: A Tale of Two Presidents.
Souza spent eight years as President Obama’s Chief Official White House Photographer, intimately documenting a presidency of character and integrity. Shade is a portrait in contrasts, telling the tale of the Obama and Trump years through visual juxtapositions that begin on Inauguration Day and move through the release of the Mueller report.
These photographs serve as a rejoinder to the chaos, abuses of power, and destructive policies of the Trump administration. Shade is both a potent comment on the state of our nation and an urgent call to act now to bring about a return to better days.
The hardcover edition followed the first 500 days of Donald Trump’s presidency. This new softcover edition adds 60 pages that pick up where the hardcover ended, adding photos and commentary on hot-button issues such as: North Korea, Michael Cohen, Brett Kavanaugh, the immigration crisis, Robert Mueller’s investigation, and Russian collusion through stirring photographs and Souza’s insightful commentary.
“Powerful… A striking, at times even hilarious book, but by the end it leaves the reader with a profound sense of loss… Shade drives home Obama’s humanity and dignity and Trump’s petty mind and epic failings like few other documents.”―Rolling Stone
