Scoville Memorial Library launches a storytelling tradition

Take Your Child to the Library Day (TYCTLD): A Storytelling Extravaganza
Saturday, February 5th, 11AM to 2PM
For all ages

Every year on TYCTLD libraries across the nation open their doors and pull out all the stops to encourage children to come into the library. This year, we are celebrating this day by welcoming the community to join us for a storytelling event that will kick off a first Saturday of the month storytelling tradition at Scoville Memorial Library.

Gather around the “bonfire” and be transported by the power of good stories. Long before the written word, communities came together to share stories and strengthen ties. Chris Wiltshire of Flying Deer Nature Center and Lakeville Hose Company’s Assistant Chief, Jason Wilson, will kick off the outdoor event at 11AM, guiding and instructing families on how to safely build, maintain, extinguish, and conduct oneself around fire. Karen Sangaline Pillsworth, Storyteller Laureate of Kingston, NY will follow at 12 noon, enchanting us with stories from her Basket Full of Stories collection and at 1PM, Leslie Elias, award-winning storyteller, Cornwall native and artistic director and cofounder of Grumbling Gryphons Traveling Children’s Theater will engage us all,
kindling our imaginations in the lively telling of the animal trickster tale Coyote Shares the Fire!

Come by and stay for the whole day or drop in for warmth and a story. Wear warm clothing, bring blankets, chairs, and hot beverages. Let’s build this tradition together! See the website for full event details and participant bios.
