Are you as sad as I am that the Olympic games in Paris are over? I was as over-the-top about them as Jimmy Fallon was as he co-hosted the closing ceremonies. Well, it’s on to Los Angeles in 2028. So let’s embrace that with the same enthusiasm that Tom Cruise brought to it, ziplining into the Stade de France to collect the Olympic flag, riding a motorcycle through the streets of Paris with it flapping behind him, riding the motorcycle onto a plane, and then skydiving into the Hollywood hills, where he delivered the flag to cyclist Kate Courtney, who took it into L.A. A wine for that kind of experience? A big, bold, California red that will honor both an au revoir and a hello. That’s gotta be an Old Vine Zinfandel from Lodi. And why not the Freakshow from the Michael David Winery? It has a wonderful label, and the wine is very good, bursting with a nose of red fruit and chocolate, and a palate of luscious dark cherry and fig with some lingering oak on its long finish. Michael David was named Winery of the Year in 2020 by Wine Enthusiast. Indulgent and decadent and fun. Cheers!
