What better to help with the heat than a refreshing frozen sangria? It’s a drink that’s lots of fun to put together and has a lot more flavor and fewer calories than a typical fruity cocktail. Here’s one of my favorites, made with a light-bodied, red-fruit forward California Pinot Noir. A great choice is Barefoot Pinot Noir, which you can get in a standard 750 ml size or go bigger with a 1.5L size.
In a large blender filled with ice, combine a 16-ounce package of mixed berry medley frozen fruit (strawberries, blueberries and blackberries are typically in this mix) with a bottle of Pinot Noir and a tablespoon of sugar or honey. If your blender is small, combine the ingredients in a large bowl, stir them together, then process in batches. Serve in large wine glasses with straws. Garnish with fresh mint if you’re so inclined – or with a fun little cocktail umbrella. Find a seat outside in the shade and enjoy!
