Main Street Recommends
Gaby’s
There are few things in this world that make me happier than a bowl of guacamole and a basket of tortilla chips, and there’s one place that does it the best – Gaby’s on Montgomery Street in Rhinebeck. Making guacamole is a precarious process – you need to ensure that you have the right ratio of lime juice to avocado to other add-ins like tomatoes and onions. I’m not sure what system of measurement Gaby’s uses, but they absolutely nail it every time. Each time my best friend and I visit, we don’t leave a single bite of guacamole left in the molcajete (the traditional stone bowl in which they serve their guacamole).
Now that I’ve spent the first half of this recommendation talking about their incredible guacamole, let me give you a few more details about Gaby’s. The inside of the restaurant is brightly cloaked in warm and inviting shades of orange and yellow, and the staff is always friendly and efficient. If it’s nice enough outside, Gaby’s has a great outdoor seating area in front of the restaurant where you can either enjoy the sunshine, or sit in the shade of an umbrella, depending on your preference.
Also, if you’re in the market for an alcoholic beverage, Gaby’s will not disappoint. They have a variety of margarita and mojito flavors, both of which are offered in a single drink, a half pitcher, or a full pitcher, as well as sangria, Mexican beers, and a variety of choices for those looking for non-alcoholic options, including classic Mexican sodas, smoothies, and aguas frescas.
All of this to say, a trip to Gaby’s will not disappoint – and make sure you order the guacamole!
