I don’t know about you, but these days I’m in the mood for something bracing. My nerves are shot. Time to indulge in a bottle from a land where peace prevails, and according to friends who just returned from there, it’s really true. That land is New Zealand, and their Sauvignon Blancs are world-class and world-renowned for being just what I’m looking for: bold and bracing. There are so many good ones available these days. One I’m particularly found of is Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc. Based in Marlborough, on the South Island, the winery has been in business since 2009 and is led by winemaker Kevin Judd. Their Sauvignon Blanc is consistently punchy and refreshing. One of my favorite wine writers, Karen MacNeil, awarded the 2023 vintage 94 points, and put it this way: “The 2023 Greywacke is lively and delicious—a huge wave of key lime, green tea, fresh streams, crunchy pea pods, and basil.” Enjoy with a selection of locally made cheeses.
