In 1955 Ella Merle and her daughter Dede Kline rose to an auspicious challenge of helping animals who had fallen through the cracks of society in Columbia County. Through their dedication and exhaustive efforts, one small building with five dog kennels has today become a multi-faceted animal welfare organization holding up to sixty dogs and one hundred cats.

Over the last six decades CGHS/SPCA has expanded its services in the community to include low-cost veterinary services (serving more than two thousand animals each year); a food bank (providing 25,000 pounds of free food annually to families in need); stray dog housing, assisting law enforcement with cruelty cases; community outreach; and humane education.

Meet King Kong, a 1-year-old white albino dwarf male hamster with a big name and an even bigger heart. This adorable little guy was surrendered when his owner could no longer care for him, and he’s now ready to find a loving new home. King Kong is incredibly sweet and gentle, making him a joy to handle. He enjoys being picked up, lightly petted, and spending time with his people. When he’s not soaking up attention, you’ll find him happily doing what he does best—burrowing! He loves tunneling through bedding and creating cozy hideouts, which makes watching him both fun and relaxing. With his cute looks and calm, friendly personality, King Kong would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for an affectionate and entertaining small pet. He’s ready to rule your heart and his new kingdom.
