Now that it’s September we’re in a fall state of mind, but it’s looking pretty summery this weekend. Here’s a bottle that will keep the warm summertime vibe alive: Mer Soleil Chardonnay. The name is French for “sea” (mer) and “sun” (soleil). That’s a winning combination in my book, and it’s an apt description for the beauty of this wine. The grapes are grown in Monterey County in California, known for its cooler climate with gusty coastal breezes and bright sunshine. The winery is part of the Wagner family’s diverse holdings – they’re behind the iconic Napa Cab, Caymus, among others – and they know what they’re doing. This Chardonnay is like a sunrise where the flavors start to shine in the glass, full of lemon squares, honeysuckle, and even freshly baked bread, balanced with a refreshing and bright acidity. Enjoy this wine with lobster or clams. Or popcorn while you’re watching football. Cheers!
