In honor of Photographer Appreciation Month in October, we’re highlighting some of our local photographers. Our second installment is none other than Lazlo Gyorsok – read on to learn about his photography!

Your name and type of camera you use / prefer?

My name is Lazlo Gyorsok.  I use mainly Fuji digital cameras but have a couple of other brands as well.

What type of photography do you most often do or prefer (subject matter)?

I do all kinds of photography including portraits of people, urban street scenes and architecture, occasional still life. Currently I am concentrating on landscape images.

How did you get into photography?

Hard to tell; I’ve had a camera since I was eight years old.

What’s your most favorite photo you’ve ever taken and why?

That I cannot answer. The “my most favorite photo” changes by the day.

 What inspires you and your photography?

I want to capture the life and spirit of our beautiful area. Getting up early and looking at the misty sunrise in the Cornwall Valley is enough to get me inspired.

 What is your background – did you study photography or are you self-taught?

I am a self-taught photographer, and learned mainly from members at our Camera Club ( Housatonic Camera Club) and from online courses.

Do you use Photoshop or other software or are your photos more natural?

I use Photoshop quite a lot but try to do it in a way that is not very obvious. I do not like to make many changes to my pictures except popping the colors and the tones.

How has technology impacted your artistry and photos?

It is not always the case that you become a better photographer if you are using the latest cameras, lenses and software. I took some great pictures with cameras that would be considered “ancient” by today’s standards.

Where do you photograph – your most common locations – do you have a favorite place to photograph either as a subject matter or as a background?

Lately I have been taking pictures mainly in Cornwall and the surrounding towns.

How do you market yourself – do you have a website or social media that you use to promote your photography?

My website is: http://www.pictures-by-lazlo.com/ , but I use Fine Art of America, 500px.com, Facebook and Instagram for promotion and sales.

 How do people find you and your photos – do you sell your photos or are you more “to hire” / commission-based?

People find me on the above mentioned sites on the web and I sell at shows as well. I do some work for architects (sample of my work is here: http://lazlo.us/) and realtors as well

Have you (your photos) won any awards?

I’ve been honored to receive many  awards for my photography. While I’m grateful for this recognition, I view photography as an ongoing journey of learning and creativity.
