Something about the rise in temperatures and seeing daffodils makes me want to indulge in a big, lucious, sunshine-y Chardonnay. I had one the other day that really knocked my socks off. It’s the 2023 Rombauer Chard. I’m always skeptical of wines over $40 – are they that good? – but this wine made me a believer that indeed they can be. There are so many delicious layers to this beautiful wine, from the nose that sings with caramel and mango to the tantalizing tropical and creamy notes on the palate. Wine Spectator awarded it 90 points, saying, “There’s plenty of energy to the juicy and plump core of tangerine, mango and peach. Shows a distinctive spice note, with clove, cardamom and nutmeg making this distinctive, especially on the finish, which mingles seamlessly with toasted, buttery brioche details.” Yeah, all that. And more. If you’re looking to spread a little sunshine inside as well as out, this wine will do it.
