I think we all need a glass of wine this week. Something significant. I’m opening a 2021 Seghesio Cortina Zinfandel from the Dry Creek Valley. It’s at 15% alcohol by volume – not that this is the primary consideration. First and foremost is the taste of this wine, which is full of big berry notes – dark cherry and blackberry – and there are notes of cocoa in there, too, and a super-satisfying spiciness on the finish. The grapes are from a vineyard planted in 1972, so they are certainly mature. It’s a wine I like to describe as a “dive in and swim around in” wine. The. Best. Especially on a long winter night. Cheers.
