During the month of August, Ten Mile Table, an initiative created in partnership with The Lantern Inn and the Wassaic Project, both located in the town of Wassaic, NY, will highlight and support voices in independent print publishing including food, wine, and art. Dubbed by organizers as the Cuizinestand or the Wassaic Newsstand, the pop-up will feature the work of a variety of writers, artists, photographers, designers, hospitality workers, wine producers, and publishers who make independent publications possible. The pop-up newsstand marks the second project for Ten Mile Table who in May launched its first project called Our Community Auction, an online fundraising auction whose proceeds benefited local charities, restaurants, and food pantries.

“Thirty thought-provoking independent publications will be featured for sale,” says Ten Mile Table organizer and Lantern Inn Beverage Director Erika DaSilva. “We’ll be donating 10% of all newsstand sales to five essential organizations, with the rest going back to each magazine for their issues sold.” For organizers, the message of the pop-up newsstand is simple — independent print journalism matters. The newsstand has been constructed into a 12x12ft space in Wassaic, and will hopefully stretch beyond in the coming weeks. Organizers profess that the Cuizinestand will showcase unique opportunities to experience independent voices. “We’re hoping this pop-up is a safe, social-distance conscious option for visitors and residents,” says DaSilva. “We encourage everyone to pick up a favorite magazine, and learn something new.”

Ten Mile Table’s Cuizinestand will run August 1-2, 8-9 & 15, from 2-9pm at the Lantern Inn in Wassaic, NY.
