Happy 4th of July! If you enjoy a big red with grilled burgers, steaks, ribs, or anything else that makes its way to picnics this weekend, be sure to have a bottle of The Federalist on hand – preferably one with Benjamin Franklin’s portrait alongside the American flag. Not only is it a delicious, full-bodied wine hand-crafted by The Federalist winery in Lodi, California, but the limited-edition label is meant to celebrate America by portraying a founding father on the label. The wine is a juice-bomb of tart cherry, sweet oak, hints of vanilla and cinnamon. Franklin loved wine and there are many quotes about it attributed to him. I like this one: “The discovery of a wine is of greater moment than that of a constellation. The universe is too full of stars.”
