The Millerton, NY, community suffered a terrible loss this past weekend when, early Saturday morning, a horrific fire destroyed a home and devastated a family living on South Elm Avenue here in our little village. While the effects of this tragedy are dark and sorrowful, the light of community support has shone through.

At 07:58am the Millerton Fire Company was dispatched to 5902 South Elm Avenue for a report of a possible house fire with people trapped.
Chief Jason Watson arrived within 4 minutes and found the house fully engulfed in flames with a report of 2 people still trapped inside the structure. Chief Watson immediately transmitted a 2nd Alarm for additional equipment and personnel from Amenia, Wassaic, Copake, Ancram, Hillsdale, Lakeville, Sharon, Falls Village Fire Companies, the Town of North East Medic 1 and the Pine Plains Hose Company, it is thanks to their unwavering efforts, that the fire was eventually suppressed. Proving once again how valuable volunteer efforts are in our area. Their willing sacrifices are essential in times like this.

Tragically two people lost their lives inside the home and today, our community is rallying together to support the remaining family in their time of great need. At this moment, there is a GoFundMe page open for those who are able to donate their support.

It is in times like these, when individuals suffer unspeakable loss, that neighbors and communities can help them overcome.
