If you know me, you know I’m a music lover through and through. Circa May 2005, I was 15 years old and glued to the television as Ryan Seacrest revealed the season four winner of American Idol. Carrie Underwood. I’d been a fan ever since she auditioned for the show and only dreamed I’d be lucky enough to see her in concert one day.
Twenty one years later and only 40 minutes from my house, I’d surprisingly never been to Tanglewood but have heard many wonderful things about this venue. When I caught wind Carrie Underwood was going to be there Saturday, August 29th, you bet I promptly purchased tickets.
Upon arrival, traffic was moving smoothly and we were directed to our parking spot. The pathways were clearly marked for pedestrians, and check in was a breeze. The lawn was packed with a sea of Underwood fans, but it was neat to see everyone set up with their little picnics. My mom (AKA my forever concert buddy) and I made our way to the “shed” as Tanglewood calls it. We had box seats, directly center of the stage. These seats rocked! It felt like front-porch sittin’ on the perfect Saturday evening (which it was).
Normally there is an “opener” that takes the stage prior to the headlining name; at least to every concert event that I’ve ever been to, but not this one. The show was set to start at 7pm. On time, the lights dimmed and Dolly Pardon’s “9 To 5” took over the speaker system. In true country music fan fashion, the entire audience rose together to honor the late and great, Dolly Parton, singing along loudly and proudly.
Immediately after I was pleasantly surprised to see Carrie take the stage. Now this is how every concert should start (in my opinion)! An approximately hour and a half show packed with 22 songs, went by in a blink of an eye. “Church Bells”, “Undo it”, “Cowboy Casanova”, “Some Hearts”, “Good Girl”, “Southbound”, “All-American Girl”, “Wasted, Dirty Laundry”, “Two Black Cadillacs”, “Blown Away”, “Cry Pretty”, “Out of That Truck”, “Love Wins”, “See You Again” (dedicated to Dolly Parson), “Jesus Take the Wheel”, “Smoke Break”, “Flat on the Floor”, “Something in the Water”, “Last Name”, “Paradise City” (Guns N’ Roses cover), “Before He Cheats”.
Carrie is not only beautiful, genuine, but is insanely musically gifted. And those run on note; girl has a set of pipes on her! My only complaint about her performance is not being able to see her legs. She is insanely in-shape and is iconically known for her sculpted legs. Hopefully she’ll show a little leg next time I see her. Who wants to come with me?!
