For 108 years Americans have been celebrating “Be Kind to Animals Week”, the oldest commemorative week in US history. Traditionally, the first week in May is designated to honor the human-animal bond and we mark this week across our Nation with many loving events.

On May 6th, Third Lutheran Church at 31 Livingston Street in Rhinebeck will be joining this special spring event with a “BLESSING of the ANIMALS”. The BLESSING is a free, outdoor event for the whole family.

At Noon, there will be a brief opening ceremony. Pastor Jim Miller will welcome the participants and WINGS AND MEMORIES will do a white dove release calling for peace and humanity in the world. All furred, finned, scaled and feather friends are invited to bring their companion people to this BLESSING. Our goal is to strengthen the human-animal bond and foster a more humane culture. To ensure the safety of ALL, animal ambassadors must be properly escorted, leashed, kenneled or harnessed. Pooper scooper laws do apply.

In addition to the BLESSING there are several other family friendly activities to enjoy

** Kids can meet and interact with the two “Lucky Orphans” ponies
** Browse the puuuuuurfectly wonderful TAG SALE just in time for Mother’s Day
** Meet and greet Animal Ambassadors representing local shelters and rescue groups
** Interact with local service animals including representatives from the police canine and mounted horse units
** Take a chance in an onsite raffle to support the charity AMERICAN*HUMANE. (Prizes donated by HighHopes Pet Treats and The Emporium, LTD.)

Come and enjoy a special afternoon and bring your cameras …. there will be many loving moments to capture.
