64ndAnnual Salisbury Fall Festival

64ndAnnual Salisbury Fall Festival

Plan a weekend in the historic villages of Salisbury and Lakeville, CT and enjoy a wide variety of special events and activities.  It’s a real “home-town” celebration in the beautiful Northwest Corner on Columbus Day Weekend – October 11, 12, and 13.

Wander along Main Street to find attic treasures, home-make baked goods, and previously-loved books and jewelry in the local churches.  Admire the beautiful Quilt Show.  Purchase Greek pastries and local honey.  Sample freshly-baked bread.    Visit the many outdoor booths and stop in the local stores for special sales. See the exhibits in the art galleries and the Historical Society.  Don’t miss the book sales at the library and book store.   Be sure to cast your vote for your favorite scarecrows which line Main Street in both Salisbury and Lakeville.

On Saturday, start the day by participating in a 5K run or brisk walk along the rail trail.  Let the kids work off some steam in the 100 yard dash or ½ mile run.  Look for local artisans selling hand-made jewelry, pottery, textiles, candles, glassware, art work, and more.  Learn about robots built by the high school Robotics Team.   Enjoy hot dogs, chili and cornbread, baked potatoes with toppings, and mac ‘n cheese—along with delicious apples, popcorn, donuts, and fresh cider.

Be sure to bring the kids!  They’ll love the pumpkin decorating, face painting, slime making, crafts, and games. Both young and old will enjoy the free magic shows and old-fashioned hay rides.  Listen to live music.  Visit the Open House at the ambulance headquarters and have your blood pressure taken.  Later in the evening, enjoy a roast beef dinner at the firehouse or stop in for a drink and a delicious meal at one of the local restaurants or inns.

On Sunday, there’s lots more.  Enjoy the Pet Parade, featuring a variety of pets with and without costumes, which begins at the Community Field in Lakeville. Visit the local artisans, historical exhibit, and art exhibits. Purchase books and special bargain sales.  End the weekend at the Beer-Fest at the ski jumps with gorgeous views of the Litchfield Hills and Berkshire Mountains.  For an up-to-date schedule of times and locations, go to:  www.salisburyfallfestival.org.
