Artists, by definition, are creative. When they find themselves needing to adjust to the changing light, angles, color, textures, etc. they look within themselves to adjust. So it should be no surprise that this year’s ArtEast Open Studio Tour artists are working hard with the current demands of a year of challenges to produce an exciting studio tour that has something for everyone. Each artist will take appropriate steps to ensure a fun and safe experience.
This year’s in-person tour is scheduled for October 17-18 and 24-25 with 23 artist stops, but we all know situations and conditions can change quickly. The key to finding out what’s happening with ArtEast is the website www.arteastdutchess.com, it is where you will find the latest, up-to-date information as well as a printable brochure, on all the activities of ArtEast.

This is the 14th year of ArtEast Open Studio Tour! The tour has added three new artists to its collective of talented artists: sculptors Julian Strauss and Margery Davis; and painter Michael Gellatly. Painter Tilly Strauss celebrates her return to the tour after several years living outside the area. She was one of the original artists that began ArtEast in 2006. And of course there are many of your favorite artists on either the virtual or in-person toure: potter George Davison; photographers Lori Adams and Lonna Kelly; sculptors Bob Madden, Karen Madden; fiber artist Donna Castilluccio; bird houses Amy and Jim Barry; electronic media Bill Prickett; folk artist Rick Gilstad; jewelry maker Susan Bores; art park Crystal Park; and painters Doreen O’Connor, Gretchen Hoffmann Abene, John Colantuono, Shelley Dell, Bob Ferrucci, Susan Hennelly, Carol Kantor, and Jeanne Plekon. Check the website for the most current information on tour participants, open dates/hours and locations.

A silver lining in being forced to stay at home these last few months is that the artists have had more time to focus on creating and refining their artworks and are excited about presenting them to you in person or virtually.
The ArtEast season will begin with an in person Kick Off event in September at the newly opened Live 4 Art Gallery, 20 Charles Coleman Blvd. Pawling, NY. The show invites the public to get a sneak peak of works by ArtEast artists and help them plan their tour itinerary of the studios they want to see in person. See the website for details on the hours to visit.

Can’t get out? No worries. The ArtEast artists have created several opportunities for the public to view their art, the artists and their studio space in virtual settings. Want to know more about the artists from the comfort of your home? Visit the website and watch the artist-produced videos of each of the artists. Some will show you their works of art with many giving you a glimpse into their studio space. The videos are short and to the point, making it easy and fun to learn about the artists and their work.

Want to try out a virtual art gallery tour? On the website you will find the 3D Kunstmatrix Exhibit. This virtual presentation is a unique way to see works by each artist in an art gallery setting. There’s even some displays with video-like 3D views of sculptures and pottery. Sit back, explore and see great art. Interested in buying a piece? The artist contact information is found on the website. Feel free to reach out to your favorite artist.
You can also keep up with the goings on of ArtEast by following its FaceBook page, instagram and Twitter accounts with weekly highlights of the artists. There’s always something going on and social media will keep you up to speed and make sure you don’t miss a thing.

Do you think that’s all for ArtEast this year? Oh No! There’s behind-the-scene planning going on to provide live FaceBook events. And, once again, visit the website for more information about which artists are doing live FaceBook events and when. Keep the website bookmarked and you will know all there is to know about the events of your favorite autumn open studio tour.

ArtEast looks forward to bringing the enjoyment of art to your lives this year!
