“Looking Ahead to Middle School” and Student Science Fair Feb 13
(Great Barrington, MA) February 4, 2020 – Berkshire Waldorf School invites families with rising 6th, 7th and 8th graders to “Looking Ahead to Middle School” Thursday, February 13 at 9am on the Berkshire Waldorf School campus, 35 West Plain Road, Great Barrington, to discover how a rigorous education for teens and preteens can also awaken students’ curiosity, satisfy their desire for action and develop their internal motivation to thrive.
“Looking Ahead to Middle School” will start with an information session in the school library and continue with a visit to the middle school science fair. Prospective middle school families will learn from master teachers and current parents how the Waldorf curriculum, sports, music and activities (like circus and the science fair) meet students’ developmental changes in middle school, and prepare them to move into the high school of their choice with confidence, courage and curiosity. Prospective parents will have plenty of time for questions.
Students design their independent science fair projects in Earth Science, Physics, Chemistry or Biology, and work with a mentor who is an expert in their field. Student projects can be an experiment (Does the “five-second rule” for a dropped cookie really protect you from germs?), an exploration (observe, keep a journal and research how guinea pigs communicate) or a project (build a solar-powered car). Berkshire Waldorf School is currently accepting middle school applications for the 2020-21 school year. Generous tuition assistance is available based on need.
