THE 19thANNUAL CHRISTMAS VINEGAR FESTIVAL
AT OUR LADY OF THE RESURRECTION MONASTERY IN
LAGRANGEVILLE, NY 12540
THE WEEKEND OF DECEMBER 7-8, 10AM-5PM
Volunteers are busily bottling 10 varieties of artisan vinegars and tonics, including a robust Red, lively Rose, and fragrant White with many more unique flavors Cherry, Raspberry, Apricot and Beer to tease the palette.
BROTHER VICTOR-ANTOINE D’AVILA- LATOURRETTE has preserved these recipes from a 12thcentury monastery cookbook and has curated their distinctive flavors for more than two decades with a vinegar starter, aptly named “the Mother” from his native France.
The vinegars and tonics are affordable and unique gifts for the holiday season and can be paired with other gifts such as Bisousweet’s signature soft biscotti, donut muffins and lemon cookies. Also on sale for Advent: liturgical calendars, handcrafted Icons and Nativity scenes, as well as gifts from the Abbaye d’Hautecombe, France.
The Monastery Gift Shop will offer these vinegars and tonics from Brother Victor’s native Pyrenees as well as his nineinternationally acclaimed cookbooks.
His first cookbook, From a Monastery Kitchengrew out of the simple seasonal meals served to the Benedictine Order. His Twelve Months of Monastery Soupssold over 2 million copies and has been translated into five languages.
Brother Victor believes that making vinegar and soup are basic to everyday life. An old French proverb advises “Eat soup and drink vinegar first and last and ‘til a hundred years be past.”
