Brian Walsh has been the Chief of the Pine Plains Fire Company for the past eight years. Additionally, he has also held an Officer’s Position for the past 13 years. When asked why he decided to join the volunteer fire department, he shared that his grandmother was one of the founding members of the Ladies Auxiliary. “It ran in the family,” he said. “We are always called out to help someone that is having a bad day or in trouble.” Because of this, there isn’t one memorable moment in particular for him, as each call is unique and memorable in its own way. For Brian, the ability to aid those who are in dire need of help is unparalleled. Brian also said that being a part of the fire department has given him “more respect for those who serve their community.” The most rewarding part for him is being able to see the look of relief on a person’s face when the fire department arrives to help. Being a member of a volunteer fire department is a 24/7 job and when asked why he continues to do it, Brian said that, “It has just become part of the routine. It never gets old.”
