The Corner Counter offers a variety of pantry picks stacked on tables and shelves when you first walk in; baked goods and pastries on the display counter; a variety of local cheeses; a full menu of sandwiches, salads and small plates; and perhaps most unexpectedly, a shelf full of local wines, beers, and ciders.

One thing that is undeniable is the quintessential Hammertown style. Joan says it isn’t “formulaic,” and that’s one of the reasons why it works. “I often say that it’s perfectly imperfect. People will come in and say ‘Oh my god, I could just live here,’ and to me, that’s the highest compliment.”
Indeed, Karen has spent her entire life observing the world through a lens. In college, she took photography courses where she spent hours in the darkroom developing photos.
