It’s February, and here comes Valentine’s Day, a stand-out occasion for wine. Why not make celebrating the loves in your life about more than one overdone day (the 14th)? How about leading up to it in lots of little ways? Breakfast in bed just because. Leaving love notes around the house. Making dinner when you usually don’t. And, don’t forget, having wine on hand. Keep it simple but special with bottles that won’t break the bank but will delight the senses. A must-have is the Mondavi Bourbon Barrel Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine consistently delivers a great experience. I’ve had it many times and it’s always a winner. The company’s description says it best, so I’ll share it here: “Layered and complex, [it] leaps from the glass with aromas of blackberry cobbler, graham cracker, brown sugar, milk chocolate, coffee, and smoke. A palate of blueberry pie, praline, sweet vanilla custard, caramel, and mocha is framed by soft, chewy tannins and a hint of toasted oak on the lingering finish.” I’m writing this in the morning and my mouth is watering thinking about this wine. It’s grand on its own, and pairs well with pizza, burgers, grilled cheese, buttered popcorn, roasts, soups, stews – and, most of all, your Valentine. It’s under $15. Gotta love it.
