Winter is upon us this week, and that calls for a fireside sipper, something to warm you to the bones after shoveling. My pick is a port, and my port pick is this one: Porto Kopke Fine Tawny Port. Tawny ports are aged longer than Ruby ports, and this one shows it, with lots of butterscotch and vanilla notes in a super-smooth and just-sweet-enough base. Kopke is the oldest port house in the Douro Valley, dating back to 1638! They know what they’re doing, and it’s all there in the taste. Pair it with your slippers, of course, and a cheese plate or shortbread cookies or a brownie.
