Super Bowl Sunday is upon us! Wine isn’t usually a beverage associated with football, and I like and appreciate a good beer on game day to wash down salty snacks. But wine does go well with football party foods – including chips, dips, chili, pizza, subs, cocktail franks and all the usual crowd favorites (munchies that are making me hungry as I list them!). An excellent white wine to enjoy with these salty, spicy, cheesy foods is Sauvignon Blanc. It’s crisp and bright, with a zing that distinguishes it from Pinot Grigio and won’t feel soft in your mouth like a Chardonnay might. I’ve gotta Go Green with this selection and recommend Bonterra Sauvignon Blanc from California. Made with organic grapes, Bonterra is committed to not just eco-friendly practices in the winery and the vineyard, but to quality in the bottle. And it’s very affordable. For a red, go with something light and a bit fruity that isn’t going to compete with the football finger foods. My Go Red recommendation is a Pinot Noir. Local wineries Millbrook, Brotherhood, and Tousey all produce lovely Pinot Noirs. Now you have a GO GREEN and a GO RED recommendation. All I can say beyond this is E-A-G-L-E-S.
