Millerton’s Festival of Lights 2019

Annual Celebration rings in the season. Families and visitors looking to ring in the holiday season in the heart of the Hudson Valley this year will again gather in the village of Millerton, NY to celebrate the annual Festival of Lights. On Friday, November 29 businesses along the village’s Main Street will once again open their doors to the surrounding community for an entire day of festive shopping and entertainment.

The Yuletide bash begins at Millerton’s Moviehouse located on 48 Main Street where doors will open at 9:30 a.m. with a free community screening of Dr.Seuss’s The Grinch taking place at 10:00 a.m. accompanied by free popcorn, goodie bags, discount coupons to the Moviehouse itself, and, following the screening, a Bicycle and Tricycle raffle drawing.

Free horse and carriage rides will take place around mid-day featuring the world-class horses of Utopia Percherons from their thirty-acre farm in Goshen Connecticut. The honorable horse-drawn carriage will leave Veteran’s Park carrying some valuable holiday cargo, as Mrs.Claus and her elves will be visiting passengers along the way.

Throughout the day, visitors to the village will enjoy holiday shopping in open storefronts and live music along Main Street until 5 p.m. with Robin Hood Radio frontman Marshal Miles calling the action as he broadcasts  live from J.L Hendricks on 41 Main Street. At 2 p.m. the Northeast Community Center will host a children’s holiday decorating get-together after which the Salisbury Christmas Brass Band & Hot Chocolate society will be belting out merry carols under the Gazebo on Main Street beginning at 4 p.m.

The main event of the evening will take place at 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Main Street and Rte. 44 with Townscape’s Holiday Tree Lighting ceremony followed by the much anticipated Annual Parade of Lights presented by the Millerton Volunteer Fire Department.

As the evening winds down visitors are encouraged keep it Rockin Around the Christmas Tree at the Millerton Firehouse located at 24 Century Boulevard for the Community Holiday Party. This year, as our hearts (and stomachs) move past the Thanksgiving turkey and our hopeful eyes look forward toward the holiday season, Millerton will once again provide the Hudson Valley with the perfect introduction to the season with its biggest, most welcoming festival of the year.
